Blackwell The Arts and Crafts House
Created by renowned architect Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott, Blackwell, The Arts and Crafts House is a wonderful place to visit and explore the beauty of the Arts & Crafts Movement, an architectural movement with its origins firmly in the Lake District.
Originally built as a holiday home overlooking Windermere, for Sir Edward Holt, Blackwell is a masterpiece of design. Today the property is an inspiring space for both artists and visitors, with its relaxed atmosphere and inspiring interiors it is the perfect place to visit, especially if you have an interest in art, craft and design.
There are frequent exhibitions and events throughout the year, alongside family activities, adult lectures, workshops and walking tours in the surrounding area. It’s always worth checking the ‘What’s On’ calendar before visiting, to check when the best day to visit might be. In addition, there is a contemporary craft shop to take away a memento of your visit, and even a Tea Room complete with terrace that is a perfect spot for a warm summer lunch with a view.
